Findings, implications and lessons learned
The following conclusions can be made on the basis of the foregoing analysis:
- The result of the analysis supports a quadratic form for the relationship between percentage pollen germination and sucrose concentration across the concentrations used in the experiment. The optimum sucrose concentration yielding maximum germination was estimated to be 24.4%.
- The pattern of mean percentage germinations yielded for different sucrose concentrations suggested that sucrose concentrations in the range of 20 to 30% yielded similar levels of pollen germination. However, higher concentrations of sucrose (> 30%) seemed to depress germination. Few pollen grains germinated in water alone.
- There was no effect of length of mature bud on germination rate.
